Training for young people

March 6th, 2015 By admin@ldn.coop Leave a Comment

Do you know someone, or are you, between 16-25, resident in Waltham Forest, London and currently seeking work?

Have you (or that other person) ever thought about working in horticulture, food growing and associated enterprises?

Come and find your place – as Organiclea is really pleased to offer for a second year, a work scheme for young people in partnership with Waltham Forest Council. The scheme, our Food Works programme, offers a range of opportunities within our food enterprises including:

  • Introductory work tasters (see below dates for next opportunity)
  • 8-16 week work experience placements (includes completion of a City and Guilds Award)
  • Paid work placements
  • Start-up business support and grants

I was worried I would never find a job. But now I have confidence – because I enjoy what I am doing and am good at it.

— Michael, 24, Walthamstow; speaking to a reporter from the Corporation of London

Hawkwood Nursery is a great place to work. Food Works has helped me to find the career I was looking for that I enjoy.

— Brandon, 19, Leytonstone; speaking to Waltham Forest News

And come along to our upcoming introductory taster dates:

Wednesday 25 March / 10am – 4pm
Wednesday 22 April / 10am – 4pm

Taster sessions take place at Hawkwood Community Plant Nursery in Chingford (see link at end for directions). Young people who’ve successfully completed a taster date will be eligible to join the work experience programme. If you would like to participate, but can’t make these dates – contact Clare (details below) and another opportunity can be arranged.
